Delegates okay life imprisonment for rapists

Delegates at the National Conference have approved life imprisonment for rapists.
They withal voted that henceforth judicial officers convicted for corruption or perversion of equity should be liable to 50 years confinement and loss of all official entitlements including gratuity and pensions without an option of fine.

The decision was premised on the examples of some Asian countries where delegates argued that the enactment of such laws had availed to instaurate sanity, reduce corruption, abuse of office, instill due process and the rule of law.

The conference additionally resolved that a legislation should be enacted by the Federal Regime that would stipulate life confinement for anyone found guilty of glomming pension and any public fund.

These resolutions followed an exhaustive consideration of the Report of the Committee on Civil Society, Labour, Youth and Sports headed by Mrs. Bola Ogunrinade and Mr. Issa Aremu as deputy chairman.

The delegates equipollently resolved that a law be enacted by the Federal Regime to provide for life confinement with hard labour for any person convicted of ravishment; while other laws should be enacted to criminalise the utilization of children for child labour and for alms cadging.

It was additionally resolved that “henceforth, any group of workers that remain on strike for more than four weeks shall not be entitled to salary.”

To revive the inculcation sector, conference proposed 26 per cent budgetary allocation for inculcation sector at the federal, state and local regime levels.

The delegates expressed the notion that with such incremented allocation, the ailing edifying system would be revived and sustained.

The conference additionally acceded that regime should provide an intervention fund as a matter of priority to revitalise forsook adeptness acquisition and vocational training centres throughout the country.

To boost employment in the country, the delegates resolved that the National Directorate of Employment, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, Community Services for Women and Youth Employment Project and Graduates Internship Scheme be merged into a single national job engenderment agency.

The delegates observed the growing incidence of casualisation in the economy, which they noted was being driven in part by employers’ penchant to cut cost and enhance profitability.

They verbally expressed currently, most employers of labour did not revere the licit provision that after six months of work, the casual worker should be permanently employed.

It verbally expressed the first phase would be a one month orientation; followed by six months of primary assignment, integration and industrial exposure; and the last five months should be dedicated to vocational and entrepreneurial adeptness acquisition.
