Group protests high electricity bills in South-East


The Ndigbo Unity Forum has protested against what it calls outrageous bills being accommodated electricity consumers in the South-East geopolitical zone by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.

In a verbalization made available to our correspondent in Asaba on Wednesday, the group verbally expressed the bills had become unacceptable in the face of poor electricity supply in the zone.

The verbalization was signed by the President and Publicity Secretary, NUF, Mr. Augustine Chukwudum and Mr. Ugochukwu Umeobinka, respectively.

The group called on the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to caution the incipient owners of the EEDC.

Describing the bills as outrageous, the NUF expressed fears that if the EEDC was not prevailed on now, the exploitation would perpetuate.

The group called on the Federal Government and other regulatory bodies to mandate the EEDC to distribute prepaid meters to all electricity consumers in the South-East, especially in Onitsha, Abakiliki, Okigwe, Nsukka, Owerri, Aba, Umuahia, Orlu, Nnewi, Awka, Oji River, Afikpo and Arochukwu.
