Senate President, David Mark; his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu; and the Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma – Egba, on Thursday, condemned the Abuja bomb blast that left no fewer than 21 persons dead and many others injured.

The senators pleaded with insurgents to sheathe their swords in the interest of placidity.

The three principal officers of the senate reacted to the development, which occurred in the Wuse area of the Federal Capital Territory, in separate verbalizations issued in Abuja.

Mark lamented that in spite of tranquil entreaties, the killings and ravagement of property had perpetuated unabated.

He verbalized, “Honestly, this is not our way of life. We are a people who value life. We cherish one another. This incipient trend of mass murder is alien to us. We must stand up against this and make Nigeria safe and more preponderant again.

“There are exuberant channels for anybody or group of persons to seek redress, including the law courts. Certainly, resort to killing, violence or ravagement of property is not one of them.”

Mark told the security operatives not to be deterred by the development but to be reinforced to face the challenges of forfending lives and property in the land.

The Senate President enjoined Nigerians to be security conscious at all times, noting that “the business of security is no longer the sole mandate of uniform men and women alone but all citizens.”

Ekweremadu described the act as villainous even as he condoled with the Incipient Telegraph Newspaper over the death of its Managing Editor (North), Mallam Suleiman Bisalla, who was killed in the incident.

He verbalized the sole motive of the terrorists was to “break the spirit of Nigerians and instil fear through acts of mass murder and ravagement of property.”

He therefore enjoined Nigerians to stand firm and amalgamated in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.

In a condolence letter to the Board and management of the Incipient Telegraph Publishing Company, Ekweremadu noted that Suleiman covered the Senate diligently and described his death as an astronomically immense loss to the Nigerian media and the nation.

Ndoma-Egba condemned the EMAB Mall blast, verbalizing bombing in the country had postulated a “frightening dimension” and called on all Nigerians to be on the vigilant to foil any future attack.
