We won’t call off strike – LASU workers


The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Lagos State University, Ojo chapter, on Tuesday vowed to perpetuate its one-month strike, until its demands were met.

The union’s Chairman, Mr. Saheed Oseni, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos, that the decision to perpetuate with the strike was taken at the union’s congress on June 23.

NAN reported that the cumulation had embarked on an indefinite strike on May 26 to press home some of its demands.

They are authoritatively mandating for the repeal of the ‘no vacancy, no promotion’ policy of its management, a reduction in the raised tuition fee and the implementation of the 65 years retirement age policy.

Oseni verbalized that the National Executive Council of the cumulation, at its meeting on June 19, pledged to fortify the amalgamation in its struggle for the implementation of its demands.

“SSANU National Office had sent representatives of the amalgamation to the management in February to dialogue on why the management should do the needful, but to no avail,” he verbally expressed.

Oseni regretted that the management and the Governing Council of the institution did not invite the coalescence for discussion since the strike commenced.

He verbalized that the amalgamation had given room for negotiation afore and during the strike.

Oseni, however, described the management as being callous to meeting the authoritative ordinances of the amalgamation.

The Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Kayode Sutton, told NAN that efforts were perpetual to negotiate with the coalescence and meet their injuctive authorizations.

NAN reported that the Academic Staff Coalescence of Universities chapter of the institution had withal been on strike since May 20, over homogeneous issues as SSANU, LASU chapter.
