FUNAAB workers protest suspension of union leaders



The placid atmosphere at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, was disrupted on Wednesday when  members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities of the institution staged a protest.

They protested against the indefinite suspension of their chairman, Abdul-Subour Salaam and his Secretary, Olurotimi Fasunwa, by the institution’s management.

The lecturers were surprised that Salaam and Fasunwa,  who were recently recalled from suspension by the management of the institution,  over issues bordering on the administration of the university, were placed on an indefinite suspension.

The members alleged that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bamidele Oyewole, was victimising and threatening their bellwethers as well as endeavoring to ‎cripple the activities of the SSANU in the institution, describing the suspension as “unjustifiable.”

The protest led to solemn traffic in the area, coercing the ascendant entities of the institution to open the school’s second ingression.

The coalescence members, exhibited placards with sundry inscriptions such as ‘Our chairman is not guilty’, ‘We verbally express no to wickedness’, and ‘Free our chairman.’

In her remark during the protest, the Vice-Chairman of the coalescence, Bola Magbagbeade, verbally expressed the struggle was not only because of the suspended Chairman and Secretary of the cumulation but to liberate the soul of the cumulation which the management of the institution wanted to cage.

A national bellwether of the amalgamation, Mr. Wale Akinremi, who addressed the protesters, urged them to optically discern the exercise as a collective struggle and an endeavor to contravene the moves by managemment of the university to incapacitate bellwethers and members of SSANU.
