Health workers slam NMA over strike


Health workers, under the aegis of the Joint Health Sector Unions, Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta chapter, on Wednesday berated the Nigerian Medical Association over what it referred to as medical doctors’ ego-predicated demands that gave elevate to the perpetual strike.

The Chairman, National Cumulation of Allied Health Professionals in the chapter, Mr. Lateef Rahmon, verbalized the NMA was pursuing a selfish agenda capable of obstructing other deserving officers in other arms of the heath sector from progressing to the apex of their vocation.

He verbally expressed the JOHESU was in support of few demands bordering on the medical doctors’ welfare but condemned the agitation for the prelude of the Deputy Chief Medical Advisory Committee position, aimed at barring other health professionals from relishing their statutory right of becoming medical directors.

He verbally expressed, “JOHESU has no quandary with some of the NMA’s demands that bordered on their welfare, but with the ones that are ego-driven like the ordinant dictation that bars other health workers that have the required qualifications from becoming medical directors should not be sanctioned to sail through.”

The chapter chairman additionally verbalized that the leadership of JOHESU had peregrinated to court over the matter.

He integrated, “Our bellwethers had peregrinated to court to seek a restraining order to avert the NMA from tampering with the law governing the promotion of workers to the post of a director.”

The Public Relations Officer of NUAHP, Mr. Alimi Talayo, and the Chairperson, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Mrs. Abosede Fagoyinbo, withal advised the regime not to accede to the injuctive authorizations of the NMA.
