NDLEA impounds 1.370kg of cocaine from smuggler

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, have recuperated 1.370 kilogramme of whitish powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine from one Ifeanyi Nriagwu.

Our correspondent learnt that the drug, which was sealed in parcels and kept inside a laptop bag, was found after an exhaustive search of the smuggler’s luggage.

The 34-year-old suspect, who hails from Anambra, was caught at the departure hall during the screening of passengers on a Turkish flight.

The Commander of the NDLEA at the MMIA, Mr. Hamza Umar, verbally expressed, “The suspect was found with two parcels of cocaine industrially obnubilated by the sides of his laptop bag. He was detected peregrinating to Turkey from where he would have proceeded to South Sudan. The drug tested positive for cocaine and weighed 1.370kg.”

Nriagwu verbally expressed he embarked on the mission in anticipation of a $3,500 (N568,000) reward which he could have utilized to take care of his family as no one was yare to avail him.

“I wanted to utilize the $3,500 I was promised to take care of my personal quandaries. I relocated to South Sudan in January 2013. I am espoused with a child but I am unable to care for my family due to financial constraint. This was why I got involved,” Nriagwu verbalized.

The NDLEA Chairman, Mr. Ahmadu Giade, verbally expressed the agency would perpetuate to engage in both drug supply and authoritatively mandate reduction activities towards achieving a drug-free Nigeria.

“We will perpetuate to pursue the mandate of the agency with all diligence. We shall cut off the supply of drug through apprehends and prosecution of drug traffickers. We shall additionally intensify our anti-drug abuse public enlightenment programmes,” Giade verbally expressed.
