Nigeria’s medal hopeful in the tracks and field event of the
2014 Commonwealth games, Blessing Okagbare has dropped in the current
IAAF Diamond League meets
The Sapele born athlete who a few months ago was the top ranked with 4 points has dropped to sixth place with just 2 points.
Okagbare could not culminate in the top three at the Monaco meet on July 18 as she could manage a fourth position which further dwindled her chances for a diamond league win this season.
USA’s Torie Bowie came first in 10.80, followed proximately behind by Veronica Campbell-Brown in 10.96 secs. Ahoure Mourielle of Ivory Coast came third while reigning 200m Olympic champion Alysson Felix was fifth, while Olympic and World 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who has won the Diamond race in this event for the last two years, culminated a disappointing sixth.
According to the IAAF Diamond league rankings in the 200m event, American Tori Bowie is first with 12 points, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce and Trinidad &Tobago athlete Michelle Lee-Ahye share the second position with 4 points each, Ahoure Murielle and Kerron Stewart of Jamaica are are fourth with 3 points, while Okagbare, Veronica Campbell Brown and fellow Jamaican Samantha Jerry share the sixth position with 2 points each.
In the 100m Men’s race, Justlin Gatlin ran a 19.68 in the 200m to become the eighth most expeditious man in history.
