The Chancellor, Covenant University, Ogun State, Dr. David Oyedepo, has urged Nigerian universities to be responsive to the nation’s security challenges.

Oyedepo, who recently distributed a lecture titled, ‘Towards the way out for a nation under trial’ at the 9th convocation ceremony of the university, charged higher institutions to engage in germane topical research that could avail solve the security challenges in the country.

He verbalized, “Universities must drive pertinence by perpetually addressing and proffering solutions to the challenges of the day like Boko Haram insurgency and all the associated challenges, through excruciating discourse, debates and solution-finding workshops.

“Universities do not just subsist to edify and graduate students, but rather to provide a platform for rigorous astute discourse that aims at providing solutions to societal quandaries and to define values and inspire research.”

The Deputy Governor, Economic Policy, Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Sarah O. Alade, verbalized national transformation could not be achieved without economic transformation, which itself is dependent on the strategic role of higher inculcation institutions in Nigeria and elsewhere.
