Tension in Plateau over LG boss inauguration

There is palpable tension in Langtang North Local Regime Area of Plateau State following the inauguration of the incipiently-elected chairman in the disputed February 25 local regime election by Governor Jonah Jang.

Jang had, on Thursday, inaugurated Mr. Nanmwa Kumzhi as chairman of the council, but the Democratic Peoples Party’s candidate, Mr. Dan Dil, had earlier claimed victory in the poll which was declared inconclusive by the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission.

PLASIEC had verbalized that there would be a re-run election in Jat Ward in Langtang North on March 3 to determine the victor of the chairmanship seat.

However that rerun did not hold afore the electoral body declared Kumzhi as the victor. However, youths in the area have vowed to fight what they described an illicit action by PLASIEC.

The youth, under the aegis of Tarok Concerned Youths, admonished the electoral body not to incite them by inaugurating an unpopular candidate.

They asked the electoral body to conduct a rerun in the Jat ward as it had earlier promised.

But the PLASIEC chairman verbalized the PDP candidate was promulgated the victor of the local regime election following a court judgement which ceased the orchestrated rerun.
