Two killed as political violence erupts in Ilesa

The animosity between the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party members in Osun State took a belligerent turn on Friday as two persons were killed during a clash in Ilesa.

Our correspondent amassed that some hoodlums descended on the two victims at Irojo area of Ilesa, beating them to death.

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Senator Iyiola Omisore, held his campaign in Ilesa which is the hometown of Aregbesola on the same day the incident transpired.

A resident of the town told our correspondent that trouble commenced on Thursday when some adherents of the PDP were placing Omsiore’s posters on some walls and were assailed by APC loyalists.

In retaliation, some hoodlums believed to be PDP loyalists invaded the area on Friday and unleashed terror on the people and one Tayo was killed.

The hoodlums, numbering five, reportedly shot in the air in order to elude afore policemen arrived.

It was accumulated that another victim identified as Tolu was beaten with a charm by some hoodlums. He was verbally expressed to have died.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, neither corroborated nor gainsaid the killing, but promised to issue a verbalization on the incident.

But the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Ayo Olowe, corroborated the killing in a telephone interview with our correspondent.

The Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the APC, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, told our correspondent on the telephone that PDP hoodlums were the ones who assailed and killed some adherents of the ruling party.

Oyatomi verbalized, “We raised the alarm that the PDP and Omisore were yare to shed the blood of thousands of our people just to capture the state and now they have commenced wasting lives of our people.
