Civil defence arrests five for stealing fuel

Operatives of the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has apprehended five suspects for illicitly dealing in petroleum products at Kara, in the Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.

During the apprehend, the command was verbally expressed to have recuperated 8,756 litres of petrol allegedly siphoned from the pipelines of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation.

The suspects and the items recuperated from them were paraded by the state NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Akinwande Aboluwoye, at Abeokuta on Monday.

The suspects are Muritala Ogunlesi, Mutiu Ademola, Yesiru Balogun, Fadeyi Idowu, and Musiliu Oyefeso.

They, however, gainsaid the allegation against them, verbally expressing they were innocent.

But Aboluwoye explicated that his men recorded the feat as a result of the surveillance mounted by the anti-vandal unit of the NSCDC for three weeks in the area.

He verbally expressed the illicit petroleum products were contained in about 80 jerry cans of 50 kiligrammes, 49 jerry cans of 25kg and 11 drums.

HE verbalized other items recuperated from the suspects were four mobile phones and implements allegedly utilized for siphoning fuel.

Aboluwoye verbally expressed the suspects would be charged to court on completion of preliminary investigation by the command.

Stating the economic implicative insinuations of pipeline vandalism, he urged Nigerians to fortify the NSCDC in the battle against vandals.

He verbally expressed, “Vandalism is hazardous to the economy. When vandals break pipelines, it is going to affect the supply of fuel and this in turn will affect the environment.

“There will be economic degradation and environmental pollution. These are the things that affect the society.”
